Alex Wilder
I am a PhD candidate at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, currently studying in the Gotanda Lab. I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, where I worked in the Mennill Sound Analysis Lab and the Semeniuk Predictive Ecology Lab.
Research Interests
As a conservation biologist and animal behaviourist, I have a special interest in cognitive welfare of human managed species and animal communication.
My main research interests lie in understanding the ways human intervention can better prepare animals for our ever changing world allowing species to persist and grow with human society.
I currently study the penguin colony at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo under the guidance of Dr. Kiyoko Gotanda (PhD), Dr. Jennifer Valvo (PhD), and Dr. Doug Whiteside (VMD, DVSc).
Outreach and Service
I’ve been involved in a variety of service and outreach activities and currently serve as the president of the Graduate Mathematics and Science Students (GRAMSS) Society at Brock University.
